1925 Stone Mountain Commemorative Half Dollar Coin NGC XF45

Regular price $55.00

The 1925 Stone Mountain half dollar was minted to fund completion of the Confederate monument carving in Georgia. Authorized by Congress in 1924 with President Calvin Coolidge's support, the coin features sculptor Gutzon Borglum's designs: Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on horseback on the obverse, and an eagle on the reverse.

Though 5 million coins were authorized, only 2.31 million were struck and sold at $1 each. Sales lagged, and one million were melted down, leaving approximately 1.31 million pieces in circulation. This 1925 Stone Mountain commemorative in NGC XF45 grade represents a significant piece of American numismatic and historical memorabilia, combining artistry with Civil War heritage.
